Ashby Review

What a company on the public calculator pays for Ashby, which add-ons sit outside that total, and which ATS to price instead.

TL;DR

Ashby is worth it in 2026 if the company has 100 employees or fewer and you want a public price for ATS, CRM, scheduling, and analytics before a demo.

The calculator opens at $400 a month for 11 to 25 employees, and a yearly term takes 10% off that platform rate. Headcount sets the bill, so one recruiter at a larger company pays the same band as a full talent team. JazzHR is the flat-price alternative, and Plus or Enterprise is a quote once the public menu ends.

SSO and extra texting stay on separate lines, so compare the calculator with the ATS roundup before finance treats one figure as the whole invoice.

  • Updated: October 16, 2026
  • Best for: Companies of 100 or fewer that want ATS, CRM, scheduling, and analytics on one public price.
  • Price as of October 16, 2026: From $300/mo for 1 to 10 employees; five bands through 100, yearly is 10% off.
  • A recruiting suite priced by company size on a public menu, then a quote after that.
  • Yearly term: The calculator takes 10% off the monthly platform price.
  • Above the menu: Plus and Enterprise publish no platform price, so both are quotes.
  • Foundations SSO: A separate monthly line on the entry plan, included on the higher plans.
  • Alternatives covered: Workable, JazzHR, Greenhouse, Lever, SmartRecruiters

Pros

  • Five headcount bands are printed on the calculator, so a budget can be written before a demo.
  • A yearly term discounts the platform rate in the calculator, and you can apply it without a call.
  • Foundations includes 1,500 AI credits a month, so light review, fraud checks, and rediscovery stay inside the plan.

Cons

  • The rate follows company headcount, so one recruiter at 80 people pays the 76 to 100 band.
  • Custom dashboards, a second offer template, SCIM, and a sandbox are off Foundations, so any one of them turns the public price into a quote.

Ashby is the recruiting suite to open when a people lead wants the monthly number before anyone books a demo. That number covers the whole company, not the recruiting desk, so a lean talent team cannot shop for a small-team rate inside a larger company.

An 80-person startup with one recruiter lands in the same band as an 80-person company with a full talent team. If finance models the bill from recruiter seats, the invoice will come in higher than that model.

Toolradar data: Toolradar tracks 32 ATS tools as of October 16, 2026, on its ATS ranking. Greenhouse drew 280 side-by-side comparisons there in the 90 days to October 2026, and Lever drew 209, so both stay on an Ashby shortlist even with no public rate.

Ashby's directory page sits in that same set, which means a budget that drops those two quotes is ignoring the tools buyers placed beside Ashby most often in that window.

How we compared, with prices checked on October 16, 2026: whether a dollar is printed before a call, whether that dollar follows headcount, and which lines sit outside it. This is a read of vendor pages, not a product trial, and the method is on how we rate.

What is Ashby?

An applicant tracking system is the software that holds jobs, candidates, interviews, and the hire decision. Ashby sells that job as one suite, ATS, CRM and sourcing, scheduling, and analytics, with AI credits attached to review, fraud checks, and rediscovery, so a buyer who wanted only a pipeline still pays for the CRM and the charts.

The homepage splits the same product by stage. The startup stage is the public calculator, growth is the stage after that menu, and enterprise is the stage after growth. Foundations, the plan on the calculator, is the only one with a price you can read before a call, so a company already in growth or enterprise should expect a quote.

A fourth product, Analytics, sits on top of an ATS you already run once the company has reached that same growth threshold, and Ashby says the price follows usage. It suits a team that will not migrate, and it does not give you a platform rate to approve from the page.

The comparison lists a 250-plus integration marketplace, unlimited offer e-sign, and a single offer template. One template is enough when every hire gets the same letter, and a second letter is a reason to leave Foundations.

Custom dashboards, saved custom reports, and the recruiting planner are not included until Plus, and newsletters are included only on Enterprise, so a board that wants its own charts, or a team that sends newsletters, is already off the calculator.

How Ashby works

You read a Foundations price without a demo, from two menus on the card: company size, and monthly or yearly. The size menu defaults to the open band, 11 to 25 employees, and the term defaults to monthly, so the first number on screen is not the smallest company.

Yearly shows the discounted platform total still as a per-month figure, which means the card is already the rate to copy into a budget.

Day to day, recruiters post to the Ashby job board and to the boards the comparison names, LinkedIn, Indeed, and Google Jobs, then move people through stages and book from calendar availability. Those boards are part of the suite, so you are not buying a separate distribution contract for them.

Screening tools beyond that pool are in the AI recruiting guide.

Interview summaries are included, while the AI Notetaker that records and transcribes is a paid add-on on every plan, and Ashby publishes no price for it. A team that needs the recording cannot treat the summary as a transcript, and it cannot cost the add-on until a quote arrives.

Texting is the sharp limit. Foundations includes 1,000 outbound messages a month, to candidates in the US and Canada, from a shared company number, so a hiring plan that texts other countries cannot assume this line covers them.

Past that batch, every plan lists $90 per 1,000, which means a busy texting month is a second line rather than a surprise inside the platform rate.

Passing the last public band changes the contract, not only the rate. Ashby's seat-billing article says Foundations is the five workforce tiers, and other accounts pay for provisioned seats. Extra seats on those accounts are invoiced at quarter end and prorated by the day, so a hire in the last week of a quarter still creates a charge.

The article illustrates proration with a sample rate, which is not a list price, and you should not paste it into next year's model. Read it on Ashby's seat-billing guide before you model year two.

Ashby key features

Five public bands, then a quoteEssential
Foundations is five workforce tiers on a calculator, and it is the only plan with a price you can read before a call. Plus and Enterprise publish no platform price, so a company that will outgrow the menu during the contract cannot finish the budget on the site.
Yearly billing discounts the platform onlyEssential
Choosing yearly reduces the platform total in the calculator. The cut does not rewrite the SSO line or the texting overage, so a company that needs both should add those lines after the discount rather than assume the lower card is the invoice.
Reporting stops at basic on FoundationsEssential
Filtering and grouping are basic. Custom dashboards, saved custom reports, calculated fields, and the recruiting planner wait until Plus, which means a team that needs its own charts is shopping a quote, not a calculator total.
One offer template, unlimited signatures
E-sign on offers is unlimited on every plan, which suits a company that sends many offers from one letter. Offer templates stop at one on Foundations and are unlimited on Plus and Enterprise, so a second letter pushes you off the public plan.
AI credits are a monthly pool
Foundations includes 1,500 credits a month for application review, fraud detection, and talent rediscovery. Buying more is available, and Ashby publishes no pack rate, so a heavy screening month cannot be costed from the page.
SSO is a Foundations add-on
SSO is a separate monthly line on Foundations and is included on Plus and Enterprise. SCIM directory sync and a sandbox are not on Foundations, so an IT team that requires either one is on a quote even while headcount is still inside the calculator.

Ashby pricing

Foundations is a company-size menu, checked on Ashby's pricing page on October 16, 2026. The bands are $300 a month for 1 to 10 employees, the open band for 11 to 25, $500 a month for 26 to 50, $700 a month for 51 to 75, and $900 a month for 76 to 100, and the card opens on 11 to 25.

Crossing a band edge reprices the whole company, not the recruiting desk, so one hire can move the platform rate.

A yearly commitment discounts the platform rate. A company of 8 people, inside the smallest band, pays $3,240 for the year on that term, which is the figure to approve if you will stay in that band. A company of 20 people sits in the open band, so the yearly term is $4,320 for the year, and that is the number to set beside a flat ATS bill.

A company of 50 people is in the 26 to 50 band, which is $5,400 for the year on that same term, so growth inside the year is already priced if you will reach that band. At the top public band the yearly term is $9,720, which is what finance should hold if the company might finish the contract near the cap.

SSO on Foundations is $100 a month, $1,200 across a year, and the yearly platform discount does not apply to it. A 20-person company that needs SSO on the yearly term pays $5,520 for the year before any texting overage, so identity login is the line that breaks a platform-only budget.

Extra SMS is $90 per 1,000 messages on every plan, so a busy texting month costs the same on Foundations as on a quote. Email lookups include 200 a month on every plan, and further lookups are a paid add-on with no published rate.

The card also says emerging-market pricing is available and does not publish that rate, so a company hiring in those markets cannot assume the printed bands are the bill.

Workable charges $299 a month for Standard recruiting at 1 to 20 employees on yearly billing, with HR switched off, which is $3,588 for the year, and that is the banded bill to set beside Ashby when the employee file can wait.

Ashby's yearly platform total at 20 people is $732 higher, and it does not include an HR file, so the gap is the price of the recruiting suite without payroll, time off, or an employee record.

JazzHR Plus is $3,480 a year, a flat annual price with up to 200 active jobs, which is $840 under Ashby's 20-person year.

At 50 people that gap against Plus widens to $1,920, because JazzHR does not step up with headcount, which is why a company that will hire through the year should compare the job cap rather than today's band.

Greenhouse lists Core, Plus, and Pro and publishes no dollar, and Lever says the rate is available on request, so neither can enter a budget from the site.

SmartRecruiters prints an Essential floor of $14,995 and does not say whether that figure is per year, so confirm the term before you treat it as a year of Ashby.

Ashby pros and cons

What we like

  • Five headcount bands are printed on the calculator, so a budget can be written before a demo.
  • A yearly term discounts the platform rate in the calculator, and you can apply it without a call.
  • Foundations includes 1,500 AI credits a month, so light review, fraud checks, and rediscovery stay inside the plan.

What could be better

  • The rate follows company headcount, so one recruiter at 80 people pays the 76 to 100 band.
  • Custom dashboards, a second offer template, SCIM, and a sandbox are off Foundations, so any one of them turns the public price into a quote.

Who Ashby is for

Ashby fits a company that can name its headcount and expects to stay on the public calculator for the whole contract. The talent lead has to accept one offer template, basic report filters, and 1,500 AI credits a month, which is a light screening pool rather than a credit for every applicant.

It is a weak fit when the company is already past the menu, or will cross that line during the contract, because the public price ends and the next contract is a quote.

It is also a weak fit when the real need is custom dashboards or a second offer template, both absent from Foundations, because either one moves you onto Plus before the recruiting workflow has started.

Skip it when hiring depends on texting outside the US and Canada, because the included texts do not cover those candidates. Skip it when finance needs an HR file, payroll, or time off on the same invoice, because Ashby does not sell that file and the recruiting price will not become an HR suite later.

There is no free plan and no trial on the pricing page. A team that must post one job before procurement signs should start on the free applicant tracking list.

Read the Workable review when you want a banded recruiting price and a 15-day trial before you sign. Read the Greenhouse review when kits and scorecards matter more than a number you can read today.

Read the Lever review when ATS and CRM should arrive as one quote and you can wait on the modules.

If the blocker is leaving Greenhouse specifically, the Greenhouse alternatives guide is the price-first list for that switch. For the employee file, use the startup HR guide.

The posting still starts with the job description.

The bottom line

Buy Ashby when the company will stay on the public calculator and the yearly platform total, plus SSO if you need it, is a number finance can approve from the page. The open band is the one to model first.

A 20-person company on the yearly term is $4,320 before SSO, and that figure is the budget line before identity login or a texting overage.

Do not buy it to learn a price past the public menu, to get custom dashboards, or to put the HR file in the same system. JazzHR Plus is the flat annual bill when job volume should set the cost, because the card does not rise when you hire. Workable is the banded recruiting price when you also want a trial and an HR switch.

Greenhouse and Lever stay quotes, while SmartRecruiters is the entry tier that already names onboarding, at a floor with no stated term, so use that floor when the first week matters more than a known billing period.

Leave Ashby if you needed a free ATS or texting outside the US and Canada. The recruiting CRM guide covers the nurture side, and Greenhouse vs Lever covers the two quote-only rivals. Screening bias rules sit in the hiring-bias note.

Frequently asked questions

Is Ashby worth it in 2026?

Yes, when the company is still on the public headcount menu and the talent team will use ATS, CRM, scheduling, and basic analytics in one product, because that is the only stage with a price you can approve before a demo.

It is a poor buy once Plus and Enterprise are the only options, since those plans publish no platform price, and a poor buy when custom dashboards or a second offer template are required on day one. Prices on this page were checked on October 16, 2026.

How much does Ashby cost?

Foundations is $300 a month for 1 to 10 employees, and the page opens on 11 to 25 employees at $400 a month, which is the band to model before you change the selector. Past that, the menu is $500 a month through 50, $700 a month through 75, and $900 a month through 100, so each band edge reprices the whole company.

A yearly term applies the calculator discount to the platform rate only. SSO on Foundations is $100 a month and sits outside that discount. Extra texting is $90 per 1,000 messages. Plus, Enterprise, and Analytics on another ATS publish no platform price. Those figures were read on Ashby's pricing page on October 16, 2026.

Does Ashby have a free plan or a free trial?

The pricing page does not list a free plan or a trial, so a team that must try the product before procurement cannot start here. Foundations is the entry product, and it starts on a paid headcount band.

The AI Notetaker is a paid add-on on Foundations, Plus, and Enterprise, and Ashby publishes no price for it, which means a recording requirement is an uncosted line. Teams that need to post a job before a paid contract should use the free applicant tracking list instead of waiting on this calculator.

What will a 20-person company pay for Ashby?

Twenty employees fall in the open band, which is $400 a month, or $4,320 for the year after the yearly discount, and that yearly total is the platform line to approve. Adding SSO puts another $100 a month on the invoice, $1,200 for the year, for a yearly total of $5,520 before texting overage, which is the figure when identity login is required.

The same headcount on Workable's yearly Standard recruiting row is $299 a month with HR off, $3,588 for the year. JazzHR Plus stays $3,480 for the year and does not rise with headcount, which is the flat bill if a job cap is acceptable.

How does Ashby compare with Greenhouse, Lever, and Workable?

Ashby prints a headcount price through the public menu, which is the reason to open it when the board wants a figure this week. Workable prints a recruiting price by employee band and sells HR separately, with a Standard trial Ashby does not offer, so Workable fits when you need to try the product or add an employee file.

Greenhouse (Core, Plus, Pro) and Lever (core plus Candidate Insights, VONQ screening, and Onboarding) publish no dollar, so they belong on the shortlist only if the budget can wait. On Toolradar's ATS ranking, Greenhouse had 280 comparisons and Lever 209 in the 90 days to October 2026, which is why both stay in the conversation even though the number arrives later.
