Greenhouse vs Lever (2026): Which Is Better for HR Teams?

Greenhouse vs Lever for HR teams in 2026: neither vendor publishes a price, so this compares what each quote includes and which team should pick which.

For an HR team in 2026, Greenhouse wins on structured hiring, since interview kits and scorecards are named in its Core tier. Lever wins when ATS and CRM must share one database, since both sit in its core platform, and the core quote also includes unlimited AI interview transcripts and AI fraud signals. Neither vendor prints a price, so the quote decides the budget.

Prices and features come from the vendors' own pages, read on October 10, 2026: Greenhouse pricing, Greenhouse platform, Lever pricing and Lever's homepage. Toolradar data: Toolradar, the software directory we run, tracks 31 ATS tools as of October 10, 2026, and 13 of them have a free plan. Neither vendor lists one, and Toolradar tags both as paid (Greenhouse, Lever), so this comparison is for teams that already budget for a paid ATS. We did not use either product for this page. Every feature below is what the vendor prints.

Neither vendor prints a number, so the quote is the price

Greenhouse's pricing page says pricing is "customized based on your company's hiring needs." It prints no dollar figure, billing basis, free plan or trial. Lever's page is a quote request form, and its FAQ says pricing is "available upon request" and tailored to organization size and hiring needs. Neither site can show one vendor is cheaper than the other, so any claim that one costs less is a guess, and this page does not make it.

The two products bill differently. Greenhouse sells three tiers, Core, Plus and Pro, and the features a finance or compliance buyer tends to ask for sit above the entry level: the BI Connector, Sourcing Automation, texting and fraud and spam detection come with Plus, while the audit log and developer sandbox come with Pro. Lever sells one core platform and three add-ons, Candidate Insights, AI Screening by VONQ and Onboarding, each quoted separately. The core already holds the ATS, the CRM, the dashboards, the transcripts and the fraud signals, so the add-ons are where the bill can grow.

Before you compare, send both vendors the same scenario in writing:

  • Your employee count now, and the headcount band you expect in 12 months.
  • The open roles you will run in a year, and how many people will use the system, recruiters and hiring managers.
  • The named modules, meaning the Greenhouse Plus features or the Lever add-ons, so each quote can be compared line by line.
  • The contract length, and any one-time implementation charge, written into the quote rather than given on a call.

Sourcing and CRM

Both products put sourcing and a candidate CRM inside the main product. Lever describes sourcing within the platform and a CRM for nurturing passive candidates and re-engaging past applicants, and it sells ATS and CRM as one product. Greenhouse lists Sourcing and CRM in Core, but its sourcing automation sits in Plus.

Pick Lever if you want one tool for open pipelines and past applicants, with no tier decision. Pick Greenhouse if sourcing automation is the reason you are buying, because that feature is listed at Plus, not Core.

Scheduling and reporting

Both products describe scheduling, but the pages differ in how much they say. Greenhouse names Scheduling as a Core feature and gives no description on the pages we read. Lever's homepage describes it in more detail, with calendar invites and auto-scheduled interviews, though its priced core list does not name it. Ask both for a live demo of the calendar flow before you rely on it.

Reporting is where the tiers matter most. Greenhouse includes reporting and analytics in Core and adds AI-powered report filters and a Business Intelligence Connector at Plus. A finance team that wants hiring data in its own BI tool is buying Plus. Lever's core includes out-of-the-box and customizable dashboards, which suits a hiring lead who needs a pipeline view without a data team.

Structured hiring and AI interviews

Greenhouse is built around structured hiring, and its Core list shows it: structured interview kits and scorecards, plus structured interview orchestration on its platform page. Lever's homepage mentions collaborative scorecards, but its priced core list does not, so confirm scorecards and kits in the quote before you assume them.

On AI, Lever's core includes unlimited AI interview transcripts and summaries, AI candidate prioritization and matching, and AI fraud-prevention signals for suspicious applications. Greenhouse's Core includes an AI Notetaker and Talent Matching, and its fraud and spam detection starts at Plus. A team that gets a flood of fake applications will care that Lever puts fraud signals in the base. Neither page states usage limits on its AI features, so ask both for the limits in writing.

Integrations and enterprise controls

Greenhouse says it has 500+ pre-built integrations on its platform page. Lever names the categories it connects to, including HRIS, sourcing, assessment, background check and productivity tools, and prints no count. A vendor count is still a claim, but it is the only integration number either page gives.

Greenhouse Pro adds unlimited CRM events, enterprise-level data configuration and security, an audit log, and a developer sandbox with sync. Lever's pricing page does not list audit logs or a developer sandbox, so a compliance lead should ask for its audit and data-security terms in writing before signing.

Who should pick which

  • Pick Greenhouse when the hiring process is the product: structured interviews, scorecards and reporting you can push into your own BI tool. Budget for Plus once you need the BI Connector, and for Pro once you need the audit log or a developer sandbox.
  • Pick Lever when ATS and CRM must live in one database, you want to nurture candidates between roles, and you want AI transcripts and fraud signals in the core quote. Price the three add-ons before you sign.
  • Pick neither if finance needs a published number this week. Start with free applicant tracking systems or the full ATS ranking.

Read the single-vendor reviews before you request quotes: the Greenhouse review and the Lever review. If you want a third option on the shortlist, the Workable review and the best HR software roundup cover the wider field. If AI features are the reason you are buying, the AI recruiting tools roundup lists the alternatives. If your open question is interview logistics rather than the ATS itself, interview scheduling software covers that category. If the ATS is one part of a wider HR system purchase, the mid-market HRIS guide covers the systems around it. If you are building a hiring budget, join HRpresso to get the people-ops decisions in one place.

Bottom line

Greenhouse is the pick for a structured, measurable hiring process, and you pay for the reporting and governance tiers as you grow. Lever is the pick when ATS and CRM must share one system and AI transcripts and fraud signals belong in the base. Get both quotes on the same scenario, and do not expect either site to name the number.

How we checked

We read Greenhouse's pricing and platform pages, and Lever's pricing page and homepage, on October 10, 2026. Toolradar's ATS ranking, and its Greenhouse and Lever pages, were read the same day for the category count and the paid-only tags. We did not use either product, so every feature is what the vendor prints. Both vendors can change their pages, so confirm the quote terms before you sign.

FAQ

Is Greenhouse or Lever cheaper?

Neither vendor publishes a price, so neither can be ranked cheaper from its own site. Ask both for a quote at the same headcount, the same open-role volume and the same add-ons. Greenhouse's Plus and Pro features and Lever's three add-ons are the lines most likely to change the total.

Does Greenhouse or Lever have a free plan?

No. Neither pricing page lists a free plan, and Toolradar tags both as paid only. Toolradar counts 13 free-plan tools among the 31 ATS tools it tracks as of October 10, 2026, and neither vendor is one of them. The free applicant tracking systems page covers those options.

Which is better for structured interviews?

Greenhouse. Its Core tier names structured interview kits and scorecards, and its platform page describes structured interview orchestration. Lever's homepage mentions collaborative scorecards, but its priced core list does not, so confirm them in the quote.

Does Lever include AI interview notes?

Yes. Lever's core platform includes unlimited AI interview transcripts and summaries. Greenhouse's Core includes an AI Notetaker. Neither page states usage limits, so ask both vendors for the limits in writing.

Which has more integrations?

Greenhouse prints 500+ pre-built integrations on its platform page. Lever lists integration categories without a count, including HRIS, sourcing, assessment, background check and productivity tools. Ask Lever for its integration list for your own stack before you choose on this point.

Which is better for a company under 100 employees?

Neither page publishes a size band, so this comparison cannot rank them for that size. Greenhouse says its pricing is customized to hiring needs, and Lever says its pricing is tailored to organization size and hiring needs. Ask both for a quote at your exact headcount, using the same modules.
