Greenhouse vs Ashby (2026): Which ATS Should a Growing Team Buy?

Greenhouse vs Ashby in 2026: Ashby Foundations runs $300 to $900/mo by headcount up to 100 employees. Greenhouse is quote-only on Core, Plus and Pro.

Greenhouse vs Ashby (2026): Which ATS Should a Growing Team Buy?

For a growing team in 2026, Ashby is the easier buy under 100 employees, because it is the only one of the two that prints a price: its Foundations plan runs from $300 to $900 a month depending on headcount. Greenhouse is the pick when structured interviewing and governance tiers matter more than a known number, and every Greenhouse plan is a quote.

That split decides most shortlists for a company still under 100 people. A 40-person startup can budget Ashby from its pricing page in a minute, while the same team has to book a Greenhouse demo before it knows the bill. Past 100 employees, both vendors move to custom pricing and the decision turns on what each base plan includes.

Prices and features come from the vendors' own pages, read on October 18, 2026: Ashby pricing and Greenhouse pricing. Toolradar data: among the 39 ATS tools Toolradar tracks as of October 2026, Ashby's $400 entry plan ranks #11 of 13 on price among tools with a verified entry price, against a $75 median, and 16 of the 39 have a free plan (Ashby on Toolradar). Neither of these two is one of the free ones. We did not use either product for this page: every feature below is what the vendor prints.

How much does Ashby cost compared with Greenhouse?

Ashby prices Foundations by company size, not by recruiter seat. The pricing page's selector shows five bands, and its FAQ says the startup price is set by the size of the organization at purchase and reassessed every year. Greenhouse's FAQ says its cost depends on the plan, your hiring volume and organizational complexity, and it prints no figure for any of the three tiers.

Ashby Foundations band Monthly price 12 months, billed monthly 12 months with the 10% annual discount
1 to 10 employees $300 $3,600 $3,240
11 to 25 employees $400 $4,800 $4,320
26 to 50 employees $500 $6,000 $5,400
51 to 75 employees $700 $8,400 $7,560
76 to 100 employees $900 $10,800 $9,720

The monthly prices are Ashby's own, read on October 18, 2026. The yearly columns are our arithmetic from those prices and the annual discount Ashby prints. They exclude SSO at $100 a month, the AI Notetaker and Advanced Scheduling add-ons (Ashby prints no price for either), extra texts and extra email lookups.

The jump from 50 to 51 employees is the one to plan for: the band moves from $500 to $700 a month, so a team hiring through that line pays 40% more on the next renewal. At 101 employees Foundations ends and Ashby moves you to custom pricing, which means the cheap printed tier only lasts as long as you stay small.

Greenhouse does not let you build this table. Send it the same brief you would send Ashby: current headcount, the headcount you expect in 12 months, open roles per year, the number of recruiters and hiring managers who need access, and whether you need Plus features such as texting or the BI Connector. Ask for the contract length and any implementation charge in writing.

What each base plan includes

The cheapest plan on each side is not the same bundle, and the gaps are where the real cost difference hides.

Greenhouse Core includes sourcing and CRM, structured interview kits and scorecards, the AI Notetaker, scheduling, reporting and analytics, SSO and Real Talent Matching. That is a broad entry tier for a team that wants a disciplined process and single sign-on from day one.

Ashby Foundations includes sourcing and CRM with automated sequences and a Chrome extension, job posting and referrals, auto-reject rules, interview plans and direct booking, unlimited offers with e-signature, and basic reporting. Ashby's FAQ says it is one price across ATS, sourcing, CRM, scheduling and analytics, so there is no module menu to negotiate.

Foundations also carries hard limits a growing team will hit: one offer template, one candidate survey, basic report filtering, 200 email lookups and 1,500 AI credits a month. Plus lifts the template and survey caps, adds custom dashboards and up to 5 brands. If you hire in several entities or brands, read those limits before you treat Foundations as a long-term plan.

Structured hiring and interviews

Greenhouse is built around structured hiring, and its Core tier says so: interview kits and scorecards sit in the entry plan, with interviewer limits, scheduling links, candidate self-scheduling and take-home tests listed in its feature table. A people team that has to defend hiring decisions to leadership or auditors gets that structure without an upgrade.

Ashby covers the same ground with customizable interview plans, structured interviewing, interview plan automation, take-home assignments and interviewer limits. The difference is the AI layer. Greenhouse includes its AI Notetaker in Core, while Ashby sells its AI Notetaker as a paid add-on on Foundations, Plus and Enterprise, and its AI-generated interview summaries come from that notetaker.

If recorded interview notes are a must, Greenhouse includes them and Ashby charges extra, at a price Ashby does not print. Ask for that add-on line in the quote before you compare totals.

Ashby's AI Auto-Scheduler, calendar holds and automated interviewer training sit in its Advanced Scheduling add-on on Plus. A coordinator-heavy team running dozens of panels a week should price that add-on too.

Texting, fraud and AI credits

Candidate texting is where Ashby's entry plan is ahead. Foundations includes 1,000 outbound texts a month to US and Canada candidates, then $90 per 1,000 more. Greenhouse lists texting as a Plus feature, so a Core customer who wants to text candidates is buying an upgrade.

Fraud screening follows the same pattern. Greenhouse puts Real Talent fraud and spam detection at Plus, and CLEAR ID verification appears in its feature table. Ashby's comparison table lists fraudulent candidate detection, and its AI credits power AI application review, fraud detection and talent rediscovery. A team getting floods of fake applicants should ask Ashby how far 1,500 monthly credits go at its application volume.

Reporting, governance and integrations

Reporting is Ashby's reputation, and its pricing page backs it with an Ashby Analytics product that runs on top of an existing Greenhouse or Lever account. Within the all-in-one plans, Foundations gets core dashboards and basic filtering, and Plus adds advanced filtering, unlimited custom dashboards, scheduled delivery and custom alerts.

Greenhouse includes reporting and analytics in Core, then adds AI-powered report filters and the Business Intelligence Connector at Plus. A finance or people-analytics lead who wants hiring data in its own warehouse is buying Plus on Greenhouse; on Ashby, ask which plan carries the Snowflake and S3 data sharing the comparison table lists.

Governance is clearer on Greenhouse. Pro adds an audit log, a developer sandbox with sync, enterprise-level data configuration and unlimited CRM events. Ashby lists a user audit log, a sandbox instance and SCIM directory sync on its comparison table without stating the tier on the page we read, so a compliance lead should get the plan written into the quote.

On integrations, Ashby prints a 250+ marketplace and says it does not charge for integrations. Greenhouse describes prebuilt integrations, an open API and an MCP connection for AI tools, without a count. Both list API access, so neither locks you out of a custom HRIS sync.

Switching from Greenhouse to Ashby

Switching is a real use case here, and Ashby's FAQ addresses it directly: it offers an API integration with Greenhouse and Lever for data migration, says to expect migration to take a day or two, and includes baseline onboarding and customer success for every customer. Its largest customers pay for an Enterprise Implementation Service.

A team that wants Ashby's reporting without leaving Greenhouse has a third route: Ashby Analytics, sold to companies of 100+ employees and priced on usage. That keeps the Greenhouse process in place while the analytics layer is tested.

Who should pick which

  • Pick Ashby if you have 100 employees or fewer and finance wants a number this week. Budget the band you will be in at renewal, not today's, and add SSO and the notetaker if you need them.
  • Pick Greenhouse if structured interview kits, SSO and AI notes must be in the base plan, or if you expect to need an audit log and a developer sandbox. Expect a demo and a quote before you see a price.
  • Price both if you are near 100 employees: Ashby's printed tier ends there, so both vendors will be quoting you within a year.

Read the single-vendor reviews before you request quotes: the Greenhouse review and the Ashby review. If Greenhouse is the incumbent you want to leave, Greenhouse alternatives lists the wider field, and Greenhouse vs Lever covers the other common matchup. For a full ranking, see the best applicant tracking systems, and for an early-stage company the HR software for startups guide covers the systems around the ATS. Sourcing-heavy teams should compare the recruiting CRM roundup, coordinators the interview scheduling software list, and teams with no budget yet the free applicant tracking systems. If AI screening is the reason you are shopping, the AI recruiting tools guide covers it. Toolradar keeps directory pages for Greenhouse and Ashby.

Bottom line

Ashby wins for a team of up to 100 employees that wants a printed price, texting in the entry plan and one bundle across ATS, CRM, scheduling and analytics. Greenhouse wins when the base plan must already carry scorecards, SSO and AI interview notes, and when governance tiers matter more than knowing the number upfront. Watch the 51-employee band on Ashby and the Plus features on Greenhouse: those two lines move the bill most.

How we checked

We read Ashby's pricing page, including its size selector, plan comparison and FAQ, and Greenhouse's pricing page and feature table, on October 18, 2026. Toolradar's Ashby and Greenhouse pages supplied the ATS count, the free-plan share and the price rank. The yearly figures are our arithmetic from Ashby's printed prices. We did not use either product, and both vendors can change their pages, so confirm the quote terms before you sign.

FAQ

Is Ashby cheaper than Greenhouse?

Ashby is the only one with a published price, so it is the only one you can budget without a call. Foundations costs $300 to $900 a month for companies of up to 100 employees, with 10% off an annual commitment. Greenhouse publishes no price for Core, Plus or Pro, so a cheaper claim either way needs two quotes on the same headcount.

How much does Ashby cost for a 50-person company?

Ashby's pricing page shows $500 a month for 26 to 50 employees on Foundations, which is $6,000 over 12 months on monthly billing, or $5,400 with the 10% annual discount. SSO at $100 a month and the AI Notetaker add-on are extra. At 51 employees the band moves to $700 a month.

Does Greenhouse have a free plan or published price?

No. Greenhouse's pricing page says pricing is customized to your hiring needs and lists no dollar figure, free plan or trial. Ashby has no free plan either. Toolradar counts 16 free-plan tools among the 39 ATS tools it tracks as of October 2026, and the free applicant tracking systems page covers them.

Which is better for structured interviews?

Greenhouse, on what the base plan includes. Core lists structured interview kits and scorecards plus an AI Notetaker. Ashby has structured interview plans on Foundations, but its AI Notetaker is a paid add-on on every plan, so recorded notes cost extra.

Does Ashby include SSO?

Not on Foundations. Ashby lists SSO at $100 a month on that plan, while Greenhouse includes SSO in Core. Ashby's comparison also lists SCIM directory sync, so ask which plan carries it if you provision users from an identity provider.

Can I move from Greenhouse to Ashby?

Yes. Ashby's FAQ says it has an API integration with Greenhouse for data migration and that the move takes a day or two, with onboarding support included. Teams of 100+ employees that want to keep Greenhouse can add Ashby Analytics on top instead, priced on usage.
