7shifts Pricing 2026: Free Comp Plan to Premium, per Location
7shifts is free for one location and 15 staff, then $39.99, $79.99 or $134.99 per location a month billed annually, with headcount caps that set the tier.

7shifts costs $0 on Comp for one location and up to 15 employees, then $39.99 per location a month on Essentials, $79.99 on Pro and $134.99 on Premium when billed annually, or $44.99, $89.99 and $149.99 month to month. Each paid tier caps the employees per location, at 30, 60 and unlimited, so headcount usually picks the plan before features do.
Prices were read on the 7shifts pricing page on 19 October 2026, in US dollars, and 7shifts labels them new customer pricing that is subject to change. Toolradar data: 7shifts is the joint second most-listed alternative among the 56 food and restaurant tools on Toolradar, the software directory we run, as of October 2026, which puts it on most restaurant operators' shortlist. This guide prices it per location, per employee and across a small restaurant group, so you can see what the bill looks like before the trial ends.

What does each 7shifts plan include?
Comp is the free tier and it is genuinely usable for a small single site: you can build and publish schedules, let staff trade and pick up open shifts, collect availability and time-off requests, and send one-way announcements through the free mobile app. The limits are the 15-employee cap and the single location, and there is no time clock or two-way team chat.
Essentials is the first paid tier and the one most single-site restaurants under 30 staff will consider. It adds advanced scheduling, team messaging, basic time clocking and customizable permissions. Its weakness is the 30-employee ceiling: a busy summer that pushes a site past it forces an upgrade, and 7shifts priced Pro at double the Essentials rate.
Pro, which 7shifts badges as its best value, is where compliance arrives. It adds PTO accrual tracking, labor compliance and labor cost tools, advanced time clocking and the Manager Log Book. For operators in cities with predictive scheduling rules, the compliance tools are the reason to buy it, not the extra seats.
Premium removes the headcount cap and bundles the modules 7shifts otherwise sells separately: Tip Management, Task Management, 7shifts Payroll and Employee Training, plus advanced labor forecasting, labor recommendations and operational reporting.
How much does 7shifts cost per employee?
Because 7shifts charges per location with a headcount cap, the cost per employee is lowest when a site sits near the top of its tier. Our analysis divides each annual-billing price by the tier's cap:
| Plan | Employee cap | Cost per employee at the cap, annual billing |
|---|---|---|
| Essentials | 30 | $1.33 |
| Pro | 60 | $1.33 |
| Premium | Unlimited | $1.35 at 100 employees |
At full capacity Essentials and Pro cost the same per head, so the jump between them is not a penalty if you fill the seats. The expensive position is just above a cap: a 31-person site pays the Pro rate for 31 people, $2.58 each. If headcount hovers around 30, plan for Pro from the start instead of upgrading mid-season.
Annual or monthly billing?
7shifts advertises 10% off for annual billing. Over a year, one location costs:
- Essentials: $479.88 on annual billing against $539.88 paid monthly, a $60 saving.
- Pro: $959.88 against $1,079.88, a $120 saving.
- Premium: $1,619.88 against $1,799.88, a $180 saving.
Annual billing makes sense once you have run a full schedule cycle on the trial and know the tier fits. Monthly billing is the flexible option: 7shifts' FAQ says that if you cancel without a contract, it bills the current month and stops there. Payment is by credit card, or by ACH on request.
What does 7shifts Payroll cost?
7shifts Payroll is a US-only add-on billed as a monthly fee per location plus $6 per employee paid, at the rates in the table above. It syncs timesheets, tips and PTO straight into payroll, which is the main reason to run payroll inside the scheduling tool rather than a separate provider.
For a single site with 25 employees on payroll, the add-on costs the location fee plus $150, or $189.99 a month on top of the scheduling plan. Premium lists 7shifts Payroll among its included features; the per-employee charge is a question to settle with 7shifts' sales team before you choose Premium for payroll alone. For comparison shoppers, our Gusto pricing guide prices a stand-alone payroll provider for restaurants that keep scheduling and payroll separate.
A three-location restaurant group, costed
We costed a group with three locations of 40 employees each, on annual billing. Forty staff per site rules out Essentials, so the choice is Pro with add-ons or Premium.
| Line, per month | Pro with Payroll and Tip Management | Premium |
|---|---|---|
| Plan, 3 locations | $239.97 | $404.97 |
| Payroll location fee, 3 locations | $119.97 | Listed as included |
| Tip Management, 3 locations | $149.97 | Included |
| Location fees before per-employee payroll charges | $509.91 | $404.97 |
On location fees, Premium is $104.94 a month cheaper for this group, or $34.98 per location, because Pro plus the two add-ons costs $169.97 per location. The $6 per employee paid for payroll adds $720 a month across 120 employees on the Pro route, and possibly on Premium too, so the gap between the two routes holds either way. The verdict: a group that wants payroll and tips inside 7shifts should price Premium first, and treat Pro as the plan for groups that run payroll and tips elsewhere.
Without payroll or tips, the same group pays $239.97 a month on Pro, or $2,879.64 a year, which is the honest floor for a 40-person multi-site operation that needs labor compliance tools.
Free trial, cancellation and the fine print
- Trial: 14 days with access to all features, and no credit card needed.
- After the trial: you can drop to the free Comp plan or subscribe; if you do neither, the account expires.
- Cancellation: without a term contract, cancelling stops billing after the current month.
- Pricing status: the page labels its prices new customer pricing and subject to change, so confirm the rate in writing before you commit to a year.
Which 7shifts plan should you choose?
- One site with 15 staff or fewer and no need for a time clock: Comp. It costs nothing and covers schedules, shift trades and time-off requests, which is most of what a small cafe needs.
- One site with up to 30 staff: Essentials, the cheapest way to add a time clock and two-way team messaging. Watch the 30-person ceiling during seasonal hiring.
- Up to 60 staff per site, or any operator facing predictive scheduling rules: Pro, because the labor compliance and labor cost tools sit there and nowhere lower.
- More than 60 staff per site, or a group that wants payroll and tip pooling in the same tool: Premium, which our group costing shows is cheaper on location fees than Pro with both add-ons.
- A franchise or a large multi-site group: ask 7shifts for a term agreement before paying list price, since its FAQ says enterprise discount models exist.
Whichever tier you pick, run the 14-day trial on a real schedule week, including the payroll export if you plan to use it, before you commit to annual billing.
Is 7shifts good value?
7shifts is priced for restaurants, and the per-location model rewards sites that fill their tier. It is a weaker fit for operators with many small locations, where a per-location fee buys seats nobody uses, and for businesses outside food service. Competing tools price differently: our Homebase pricing, Deputy pricing and When I Work pricing guides set out per-location and per-user models side by side, and the HR software pricing index collects them in one table.

How we priced this
We read the 7shifts pricing page and its FAQ on 19 October 2026 in US dollars. Per-employee and group figures multiply the printed per-location prices by the location counts and headcounts stated in each table; nothing is estimated. Enterprise, franchise and term pricing is quoted privately and is not included. The Toolradar figure comes from the 7shifts profile on Toolradar; competitors have profiles there too, including Homebase and Deputy.
