TestGorilla Review
What the free plan covers, what the paid tiers cost a year, and how credits change the bill, set against Adaface, TestDome and Codility.
TestGorilla is worth using on its free plan, which costs $0 and gives 10 credits a month plus five essential tests that use no credits. As a paid buy it is harder to justify: Core starts at $215 a month and Plus at $520 a month, both billed annually, and the pricing page prints no credit allowance for either tier.
Adaface Pro, at $900 a year for 100 credits, is the closest comparison on price. Adaface has no free plan, only a 14-day trial. TestGorilla wins on library breadth, with 350+ premium tests on paid plans and native ATS integrations on Plus, and it loses on price clarity.
If the test is one step in a wider hiring stack, read the free applicant tracking list before you commit to a plan.

The free plan is worth using: it costs nothing and gives 10 credits a month. The paid price is a floor, not a total, since the credit count decides the bill.
This review covers what the free tier includes, what the paid tiers cost in dollars, and how credits turn a plan into a bill.
Toolradar data: Toolradar, the software directory we run, evaluated 30 recruiting tools for its October 2026 ranking, and only 2 of its 10 top picks have a free plan.
A free plan is uncommon among the top picks, which makes the TestGorilla free tier worth a close look. The recruiting ranking has the full list.
The buyers here are HR leads, recruiters and founders who screen candidates before interviews.
Adaface, TestDome and Codility are the three alternatives with dollar prices we could read today, so they set the comparison.
How we compared: the pricing pages of TestGorilla, Adaface, TestDome and Codility, read on 10 October 2026, plus each vendor's own credit rules. The arithmetic uses only those published prices.
What is TestGorilla?
TestGorilla sells two products. Assessments is the library of skills tests, AI interviews and video questions that most people mean by the name. Gorilla Sourcing is a candidate search product sold per seat and per invite.
This review covers Assessments, the part a hiring team screens with.
The vendor says the paid tiers include 350+ science-backed skills tests, and its pricing page lists GDPR and SOC 2 Type II compliance.
Toolradar's TestGorilla profile averages 4.3 out of 5 from 1,716 G2 and Capterra reviews, checked 17 September 2026. That is a third-party average, not a Toolradar score.
How TestGorilla works
A recruiter invites a candidate for free, and the credit is charged only when the candidate starts the assessment. Each tool inside the assessment costs its own credits: a premium skills test costs 1 credit per candidate, a video question 1 credit, an AI interview 2 credits, a job simulation 2 credits on Plus, and an ID check 1 credit on Plus.
Resume scoring, qualifying questions and custom questions cost nothing.
Two rules change the bill more than the price list does. Credits on an annual plan pool for the year, and they are shared across the account rather than assigned per role.
Costs stack per tool, so a candidate who takes two skills tests and an AI interview uses far more credits than one who takes a single test. The bill follows the test mix as much as the headcount.

TestGorilla pricing
Prices verified on each vendor's pricing page on 10 October 2026. TestGorilla quotes Core at $215 a month and Plus at $520 a month, each billed annually, which is $2,580 and $6,240 a year. The page tags annual billing with a 25% saving label.
These are annual-billed rates, and without a credit allowance no per-candidate cost can be built from them.
Gorilla Sourcing is a separate line: Core is $74 a month per seat and Plus is $134 a month per seat, billed annually, or $888 and $1,608 a year per seat.
Five Plus seats come to $8,040 a year.
A 60-candidate year shows the gap. Adaface Pro works out to $15 a candidate, since 60 invites and one ready-made test use 65 of its 100 credits. TestDome's 100-candidate pack is $1,000, and its unused candidates carry over because packs never expire.
TestGorilla's Core annual fee alone is $43 a candidate before any credit is spent, and that is a floor, not an estimate of the bill.
Codility Starter is $1,200 a year for up to 120 invite credits and one platform user. It is a coding product, so it is not a like-for-like buy for sales or support roles.

TestGorilla pros and cons
What we like
- Five essential tests run with no credit cost on the free plan, with unlimited use.
- 350+ premium tests on Core and Plus, against 180+ limited tests on Free.
- Native ATS integrations and API access on Plus, with GDPR and SOC 2 Type II compliance listed.
What could be better
- The pricing page prints no credit allowance for Core or Plus, so a paid budget cannot be set from public figures.
- Free allows one premium user role and five preset custom questions, and the ATS connection is Plus only.
Who TestGorilla is for
TestGorilla fits a team that screens 10 or fewer candidates a month on general skills and wants to start for nothing. It also fits a larger HR team that needs the 350+ test library and an ATS connection, which means Plus, and can wait for a quote on credits.
The free plan is the honest starting point, because the five essential tests cost nothing to run.
Skip TestGorilla if you hire only engineers. Codility's coding and SQL tasks are the closer match, even at its starting price.
Skip it too if the budget has to be fixed before the credit count is known, and the public page does not give that count.
Best TestGorilla alternatives
If TestGorilla is not the right fit, these are the closest options.

The bottom line
Start on TestGorilla's free plan, and buy a paid tier only after you know how many candidates and which tests your hiring needs.
If your work is steady role testing, put Adaface Pro, the plan with 100 credits a year, next to Core in writing before you choose.
For the wider stack, the free applicant tracking list shows where a test fits, and the Paylocity review shows how a quote-only vendor changes the same budget conversation.
