ADP Pricing in 2026: Every Plan, Real Costs, and Hidden Fees
Roll by ADP is $39/mo plus a per-employee fee in 2026. RUN, Workforce Now, and TotalSource publish no USD list price, so budget the quote.

Roll by ADP is the only ADP price an HR team can budget in 2026: $39/mo plus $5 per employee. RUN Powered by ADP, Workforce Now, and TotalSource publish no USD list price. Use Roll for phone payroll only, and get a written quote before you cancel another system if hiring, onboarding, or a second state needs an HR desk.
Rates in this piece were read on 24 September 2026 from ADP's RUN versus Roll comparison, the RUN package matrix, the Workforce Now package comparison, and the TotalSource product page. Toolradar data: Toolradar, the software directory we run, evaluated 71 payroll tools for its September 2026 ranking at payroll software. ADP is in that set, and the directory cannot finish a RUN or Workforce Now budget from a public card.
A spreadsheet that prices only the phone app is not a budget for the HR suite. ADP is not one checkout: it is a stack of payroll and HR products sold by company size, and the name on the demo is the name on the invoice.

Payroll software, for a people team, is the system that calculates gross pay, withholds taxes, and files the returns. An HRIS that cannot survive a termination in the same week as the last paycheck is a directory with a login.
Roll is the only number on the website
Roll is a mobile payroll app, and the printed price is a base plus a headcount fee. ADP's comparison puts Roll at that monthly base plus the per-employee amount, with same-day deposit as a per-transaction fee and no dollar on the fee. The affordable-payroll article still dates the same pair to November 2025, so a rep calling the card a fresh promo is describing a price already on the site. The small-business page calls this "simple payroll by Roll," which is that package, not RUN.
The app is chat-based and mobile-only, which is the limit inside the price. ADP says you can run payroll in under a minute, onboard on the phone, file in all 50 states, and reach 24/7 in-app chat. HR help is basic Q&A in that chat, with no handbook wizard, no applicant tracking, and no learning system on this product. A founder who hires from a laptop and needs a paper trail for the offer letter is already past what this price buys, and QuickBooks Online can map the payroll into the books without adding that HR desk.
Next-day or standard deposit sits inside the printed rate, and same-day pay is a separate transaction charge with no dollar on it. A weekly same-day habit is not the Roll price times headcount. Ask for that fee before you promise a crew they will be paid the day the hours are approved.
What 10 and 25 people cost when a vendor prints the math
Treat the rows below as list-price ceilings, not as an ADP proposal. For people you actually pay in the month, the arithmetic on the 24 September 2026 cards is in the table. It excludes tax, the Roll same-day fee, Patriot's extra-state fee, OnPay add-ons, and any Rippling base fee.
| 10 people paid in the month | Monthly list | Year, our arithmetic |
|---|---|---|
| Roll by ADP | Base plus 10 times the per-employee fee | $1,068 |
| OnPay Payroll Essentials | Base plus 10 times the per-worker fee | $1,308 |
| Patriot Full Service, regular card | Base plus 10 times the per-worker fee | $1,044 |
| Patriot Basic, you file the taxes | Base plus 10 times the Basic per-worker fee | $684 |
| Rippling HRIS plus domestic payroll, annual starting rates | 10 times the sum of those two starting rates | $1,920 |
| Rippling, same modules, monthly payroll rate | 10 times HRIS plus the monthly payroll rate | $2,160 |
The monthly figures behind that year column are $89 on Roll, $109 on OnPay, and $87 on Patriot Full Service. Patriot Basic, where you file the taxes, is $57, the Rippling annual floor is $160, and the Rippling monthly floor is $180. Basic is cheaper because you file the taxes, and the Rippling rows buy an HR record as well as payroll.
At 25 paid people the same cards move, and ADP's other products still do not. Roll becomes $164/mo, OnPay becomes $199/mo, and Patriot Full Service becomes $162/mo on the regular card. None of those three figures is a RUN quote, a Workforce Now quote, or a TotalSource quote. A sales number near one of them is finally something you can compare, and a refusal to price means you are buying a different product than the public card.

RUN is four packages for 1 to 49 employees, and every column says Get Pricing
Essential is payday, tax filing, and a penalty promise, for a company that does not need an HR suite yet. The package matrix includes, on every tier, payroll by computer, app, or phone, direct deposit, 24/7 support, a general ledger export, new-hire reporting, W-2s and 1099s, and tax filing. ADP will pay fines or penalties if ADP made the filing error, and that promise already sits on Essential. Multi-company and multi-jurisdiction payroll are on Essential too, so a second state, by itself, is not a reason to buy Enhanced.
Enhanced is the first tier that touches hiring and state unemployment: ZipRecruiter, electronic Form I-9, state unemployment management, garnishment payment, job costing, and labor-law posters. A single-state company with no garnishments, and hiring that still fits in email, should stay on Essential when the Enhanced quote is mostly those extras.
Complete is the HR help desk, and HR Pro is recruiting and training. Complete adds the HR HelpDesk, a handbook wizard, salary benchmarks, and HR forms, which is the buy when managers need answers and a handbook. HR Pro adds a stronger help desk, applicant tracking powered by CareerPlug, a learning system, harassment-prevention training, and legal assistance from Upnetic. Open roles that need a tracker do not belong on Essential: they belong on HR Pro or on a separate applicant tracking system, and you cannot know which is cheaper until ADP prices HR Pro.
The add-ons are available on every RUN tier, and none has a public rate. Time and attendance, retirement, workers' compensation, and health insurance are marked available, not included. A budget that stops at payroll misses the invoice that clocks hourly staff and the invoice that runs open enrollment. Compare timekeeping with time tracking software before you accept the add-on as the only clock.
Two billing rules will move the quote even if W-2 headcount stays flat. Payroll fees increase with frequency, including off-cycle runs, and some states set a minimum frequency, so weekly pay is not the same bill as monthly pay. Contractors are a separate bundle, a monthly base, a per-contractor fee, and year-end processing, and ADP does not print those amounts. You do not have to sign a long-term contract, and switching packages means calling sales.
ADP's small-business page says more than 900,000 small businesses use the platform, and an internal 2026 survey of 1,281 RUN customers found 95% saying ADP helps with payroll-tax compliance. That is a survey of current customers, not a result you can book for a new account.
Workforce Now is the suite after 49 people, and the price is still a form
The product page splits the demo at 50 to 999 employees and at 1,000 and up. Select, Plus, and Premium all include payroll and tax, HR records, onboarding with a digital I-9, employee surveys, and unlimited document storage. The comparison also marks recruiting, performance, compensation, an HR help desk, analytics, and learning as included on all three. Learning is listed as more than 70,000 pre-packaged courses, and recruiting includes ZipRecruiter plus access to more than 25,000 job boards, so those libraries do not justify leaving Select. A global HR system of record is on Select too, which means a multi-country employee file is not, by itself, a reason to buy Plus.
Plus is benefits, Premium is time, and the pay benchmarks are optional. Plus adds enrollment, life events, ACA support, and carrier connections, and those direct connections are still marked optional, so you may still upload files to the carrier. Premium adds scheduling, accruals, and overtime, which is a second clock if you already own one. The product page cites monthly pay data from more than 39 million workers, and the package grid marks benchmarking against that set as optional, so a merit cycle is not automatically inside Select. If open enrollment is the painful cycle, price it in benefits administration before you treat Plus as the only path.
ADP's HCM pricing guide, updated 27 August 2026, describes the bill shape and still prints no rate. The model is per employee per month, which is 12 bills a year, or per employee per payroll, which is 24 bills on a semi-monthly cycle, so the payroll cadence hits cash on more dates. Implementation is a one-time fee for migration and training, and the guide does not state the amount, so that missing fee can still lose the first year. The product page describes an assisted implementation and a demo, not a paycheck you can run before the quote.
The operating picture, separate from this bill, is the ADP review. A wider shortlist is payroll software and, once the company is clearly mid-market, HRIS for the mid-market.
TotalSource is a PEO quote, not a seat price
TotalSource is co-employment, and the website will not multiply it by headcount. ADP runs benefits end to end and includes workers' compensation in the service fee rather than as a later line, so a lower admin percent elsewhere can still lose if workers' compensation is billed beside it, and you keep hiring, firing, and pay decisions. ADP says most businesses are up and running within a few weeks, and it does not print an implementation fee.
The PEO cost guide, updated 14 July 2026, gives a category range and refuses a TotalSource rate inside it. Administrative fees, across PEOs, may run from 2% to 12% of payroll or about $40 to $160 per employee per month. TotalSource is quoted from workforce size, injury risk, and where people work. The service fee is meant to cover the technology, HR support, tax remittance, workers' compensation, and benefits administration. Wages, employer benefit contributions, and payroll taxes stay yours, so the service fee is not the cash leaving the company.
The ROI lines are ADP's research, and they are not a savings cell in a board model. A May 2026 TotalSource study on the product page says 70% of clients saw measurable ROI within six months, with payroll time down 50% to 80% and onboarding time down 70%. The page does not print the sample size, so do not subtract those time cuts from the quote. TotalSource has been an IRS-certified PEO since 2017, and ADP says it is bonded up to $1 million a year for tax payments. Comprehensive Services, the other outsourcing path named on the small-business page, also has no public price.
OnPay, Patriot, and Rippling are the cards you can put next to a blank quote
OnPay is the full-service card RUN will not print. Payroll Essentials includes unlimited pay runs, multi-state filing, year-end forms, and setup with no implementation fee, and the page offers the first month free. HR is $15/mo plus $2 per worker, and time tracking is $15/mo plus $4 per worker. Compliance resources are $10/mo, and live HR support is $65/mo. A team that needs a clock and an org chart is not living in the payroll-only year in the table, so add those lines before you call OnPay cheaper than a RUN quote.
Patriot prints two payroll products, and only Full Service files the taxes. Full Service files federal, state, and local taxes, and Basic leaves filing to you, which moves the penalty risk back onto the company. Each extra state on Full Service is $12/mo, so add that line before you compare the card with OnPay, which includes multi-state filing in Payroll Essentials. The pricing page offers 30 days free and 50% off for six months. Budget the regular card, because that intro is not the renewal.
Rippling's June 2026 payroll article lists starting rates, and the pricing page still asks for a quote. HRIS and domestic payroll are the two rates in the glance table, and payroll is lower on an annual bill. The pricing page adds that some products include a monthly base fee it does not print, so the 10-person rows above are a floor, not an order form. The Rippling review is the page when laptops and identity leave with the employee record.
Gusto and Paychex belong beside the ADP quote. Gusto publishes a monthly base plus a per-person fee, unlimited runs, and month-to-month terms. The Gusto review covers the product. Paychex Flex, on the compare page linked above, does not print a USD list price, so it cannot fill a budget you need this week. BambooHR versus HiBob is the comparison when payroll is already settled and the fight is the HR system of record.
Who should take the meeting
Take the Roll price when payroll is a phone task in one state, hiring is still the founder's inbox, and there is no handbook or open enrollment. ZipRecruiter, an I-9 help desk, or a learning assignment moves you off that printed price and onto a RUN quote. The startup HR software list is the wider shelf if the bank put ADP on the shortlist.
Take a RUN meeting for a US company of 1 to 49 only after frequency and the contractor bundle are numbered. The HR software roundup is the shelf when you want a published seat price instead.
Take a Workforce Now meeting for the 50 to 999 walkthrough or the 1,000-and-up walkthrough, once you know whether you need Plus or Premium. Buying Premium to get a survey pays for a clock you may already own.
Take a TotalSource meeting for co-employment: benefits you could not buy alone, workers' compensation inside the fee, and an HR partner on the phone. Bring job titles, states, and wage data, because the quote is underwritten. Skip it when you will not share that relationship.
Stay on a printed card when finance needs a number this week. OnPay or Patriot Full Service will tell you the annual payroll license before a sales call. Move to ADP for the service desk, the penalty language, or the PEO, and put a one-year and a two-year figure on the proposal, because ADP's public pages state no renewal cap. The product write-up on Dupple is ADP on Dupple. If the next project is AI on resumes or policy answers, start with AI for HR.
How we priced this
The ADP, OnPay, Patriot, Rippling, and Paychex pages named above were read on 24 September 2026, including Rippling's payroll article dated 17 June 2026. Headcount totals multiply those published rates and are not vendor quotes. RUN, Workforce Now, TotalSource, Comprehensive Services, and Paychex Flex had no USD list price, so they stay quote-only. Gusto publishes a base plus a per-person fee, and the figure to use is the one in the live account. Louis Corneloup, who founded Toolradar and Dupple, edited the bill. Re-check the order form before a signature, then use the ADP review for the product verdict.
FAQ
How much does ADP cost in 2026, per plan and per employee?
Roll by ADP is $39/mo plus $5 per employee, and same-day deposit is an extra per-transaction fee that ADP does not print, so a same-day crew costs more than the card. RUN's four packages for companies of 1 to 49 employees, Workforce Now Select, Plus, and Premium, and TotalSource all require a quote. The RUN bill moves with pay frequency, headcount, and add-ons, and a contractor bundle adds a monthly base, a per-contractor fee, and a year-end fee, none of them published.
Does RUN Powered by ADP publish a price?
No. Essential, Enhanced, Complete, and HR Pro each end in a pricing request. Essential covers payroll, tax filing, and ADP paying penalties when ADP caused the filing error, which fits a company that only needs payday. Enhanced adds ZipRecruiter, unemployment-account management, and garnishments. Complete adds an HR help desk and a handbook wizard. HR Pro adds applicant tracking, learning, and harassment-prevention training when open roles and courses should share the payroll login. Time, retirement, workers' compensation, and health insurance are add-ons on every tier, without public rates. You do not have to sign a long-term contract.
What is the difference between Workforce Now Select, Plus, and Premium?
Select includes payroll, HR records, onboarding, surveys, and, on ADP's comparison, recruiting, performance, and learning, so stepping up is not how you buy those modules. Plus adds benefits administration, and Premium adds time and attendance. ADP does not print a price for any of the three. Demos split at 50 to 999 employees and at 1,000 and up. A per-payroll bill on a semi-monthly cycle means 24 invoices a year, against 12 on a monthly model.
Is there a free ADP plan or a self-serve trial?
ADP does not publish a free payroll plan. RUN offers a self-led demo, and Workforce Now offers an interactive demo plus a custom walkthrough. Neither is a paycheck you can run before a sales conversation. OnPay's pricing page offers the first month free. Patriot offers 30 days free and then 50% off for six months, and that intro is not the renewal rate.
What do 10 employees cost on Roll, OnPay, and Patriot?
On the 24 September 2026 list prices, 10 paid people are $89/mo on Roll, $109/mo on OnPay Payroll Essentials, and $87/mo on Patriot Full Service before the intro discount. Patriot Basic, which leaves tax filing to you, is $57/mo for those 10. The year column in the cost table is the regular card times 12. Rippling's annual starting rates floor at $160/mo for 10 people before any base fee. None of these is a Workforce Now price.
How much does ADP TotalSource cost?
ADP does not publish a TotalSource list price. The quote depends on headcount, where people work, and workers' compensation risk, and workers' compensation is included in the service fee. ADP's PEO guide says administrative fees in the category may range from 2% to 12% of payroll or about $40 to $160 per employee per month, and it does not place TotalSource at a point inside that range. Wages, payroll taxes, and your benefit contributions sit outside the service fee.
Does ADP charge extra for off-cycle payroll, contractors, or more states?
On RUN, fees increase when you run payroll more often, including off the regular schedule, and ADP does not print the extra amount. Contractor payments are a separate bundle with a monthly base, a per-contractor fee, and year-end processing, also unpublished, so W-2 headcount is not the whole bill. Roll prices same-day deposit per transaction, again without a printed fee. Multi-jurisdiction payroll is included on every RUN package, which is not the same as Patriot, where each additional state on Full Service is $12/mo. OnPay includes multi-state filing in Payroll Essentials.
