BambooHR vs HiBob (2026): Which Is Better for HR Teams?
BambooHR vs HiBob for HR teams in 2026: published per-employee rates, US and UK payroll limits, and a pick by company size.

Key facts4 plans compared: BambooHR Core, BambooHR Pro, BambooHR Elite, HiBob (Bob)
- 4 plans compared: BambooHR Core, BambooHR Pro, BambooHR Elite, HiBob (Bob)
- BambooHR Core (best for: A US system of record with a price you can budget): $10/employee/month; $250/month flat at 25 or fewer
- BambooHR Pro (best for: The same company, plus reviews and a community): $17/employee/month
- BambooHR Elite (best for: Compensation cycles and benchmark dashboards): $25/employee/month
- HiBob (Bob) (best for: A scaling or multi-country HCM on a sales quote): Custom per employee; no list price
For an HR team choosing in 2026, BambooHR wins when you want a published US price: Core starts at $10 per employee per month, or a $250 monthly floor for 25 people or fewer. Choose HiBob when the company is multi-country and you will take a custom per-employee quote, because Bob publishes no list price.
Prices below were verified in September 2026 on BambooHR's pricing page and HiBob's pricing page, and the directory listing is the HRIS ranking. Toolradar data: Toolradar, the software directory we run, evaluated 32 HRIS tools for its September 2026 ranking, and BambooHR is the overall pick in that set.
At a glance
| Plan | Best for an HR team | Starting price (USD) | What you actually get |
|---|---|---|---|
| BambooHR Core | A US system of record with a price you can budget | $10/employee/month; $250/month flat at 25 or fewer | Records, PTO, hiring capped at 5 open jobs, eNPS, one compliance course |
| BambooHR Pro | The same company, plus reviews and a community | $17/employee/month | 360 reviews, 1:1s, recognition, 25 open jobs, 15 compliance courses |
| BambooHR Elite | Compensation cycles and benchmark dashboards | $25/employee/month | Mercer bands, custom dashboards, 50 open jobs, 300+ courses |
| HiBob (Bob) | A scaling or multi-country HCM on a sales quote | Custom per employee; no list price | Core HR, then modules for talent, payroll, planning, and finance |
An HRIS, for this audience, is the system of record for people data: the employee file, time off, onboarding tasks, and the approvals that used to live in a shared inbox. If it cannot take a leaver off payroll and out of the org chart in the same week, it is a directory with a login.
What the published rate leaves out
The Core rate in the table is the HR seat, not the whole stack. BambooHR prices payroll, benefits administration, time and attendance, and global employment as add-ons, and none of those four has a public dollar amount. A budget that stops at the seat misses the invoice that runs payday. Payroll and benefits administration are marked for US employees only, so anyone outside the US is a different bill.
HiBob's price is a three-step quote, not a rate card. Every plan includes Core, priced per employee from headcount, modules, and implementation, and regional pricing can differ. There is no public seat price beside BambooHR's, so finance cannot finish the comparison from the website.
BambooHR applies an automatic volume discount as headcount grows and does not publish the schedule, so the card rates are starting rates. A larger company should not multiply the card and call the product the contract, because the cut shows up only on a quote. Registered nonprofits get an additional 15% off, and that is the only discount with a number on the page.
Pricing, headcount by headcount
Annual commitment is optional, and BambooHR's startups page says no annual contract is required, which matches month-to-month or extended terms, so you can start without a lock-in.
| Plan | What you pay | HR reading |
|---|---|---|
| BambooHR, 25 employees or fewer | Flat monthly floor, not a per-person rate | QuickStart setup, videos plus office hours |
| BambooHR Core, above the flat floor | $10/employee/month to start | Records, PTO, eNPS, 5 open jobs, one EasyLlama course |
| BambooHR Pro | $17/employee/month to start | Performance, community, recognition, 25 open jobs, 15 courses |
| BambooHR Elite | $25/employee/month to start | Compensation, Mercer benchmarks, custom dashboards, 50 open jobs |
| HiBob Core | Quote, per employee | Database, documents, time off, workflows, analytics, mobile app, Bob AI |
| HiBob modules | Added to that quote | Talent, payroll, hiring, learning, compensation, planning, finance |
At those starting rates, 50 employees is $500 a month on Core, $850 on Pro, and $1,250 on Elite. At 120 employees the same math is $1,200, $2,040, and $3,000 a month. If the volume discount has already kicked in, the real invoice is lower than these ceilings.
The awkward step is the first person past the flat floor. At 26 people, Core is $260 a month before any volume discount, a small jump that also ends QuickStart.
BambooHR offers a 7-day trial on its startups page. HiBob's payroll page offers a demo, and neither the pricing page nor the platform FAQ publishes a trial or a free plan. If you need a week in the product before a sales call, only BambooHR publishes one, and that week is records and time off, not payroll.
Records, time off, and hiring
BambooHR Core wins for a US team whose week is the employee file, PTO, and a short hiring slate. Core includes custom reports, unlimited time-off policies, onboarding checklists, e-signatures, and benefits tracking, enough to replace a shared inbox if hiring stays light. Tracking means the plans live in the HRIS, while open enrollment and carrier connections are a separate US add-on, so the seat is not the benefits system.
The hiring cap is what changes the tier: the matrix allows 5 open jobs on Core, 25 on Pro, and 50 on Elite, so six open roles at once force Pro even if you do not want reviews. If recruiting is the system of work, use an applicant tracking system or read the Greenhouse review, because Pro is an expensive way to raise a job cap.
HiBob sells Hiring as its own module and does not publish a job cap. HiBob wins when hiring volume would force a BambooHR tier you do not otherwise need, because hiring can be added without buying performance. A team that posts two roles a quarter should not buy that module, or Pro, to clear a cap of five.
Performance, surveys, and the homepage people open
Surveys sit on the base of both products, but HiBob's price page is the one to re-check. BambooHR includes eNPS and employee wellbeing on Core, and that plan's assistant groups free-text answers into themes, so a small team can run a pulse without stepping up. HiBob's platform page places Your Voice surveys and a sandbox inside Core, but the pricing checklist does not name either one. Confirm both are in the base price before you cancel a separate engagement tool.
Performance is not on BambooHR Core, so a review cycle forces a step up even when the employee file is already in place. Pro adds 360 reviews, 1:1s, goals, an employee community, and recognition with redeemable points. Elite is not required to run that cycle, so do not let a demo walk you to the top tier for work Pro already covers. HiBob puts reviews and growth in the Talent module and lists Learning separately, so one platform story can still arrive as two line items.
HiBob wins if performance, learning, and hiring should be one quote rather than a climb through published tiers. BambooHR Pro wins if you want a published step-up for reviews, which you can budget before the call. If the review cycle is the only project, read the Lattice review and the employee engagement roundup before you add a module.
BambooHR's assistant is tiered: Core answers from HR data such as PTO, Pro (Ask BambooHR) also reads policies and handbooks, and Elite adds benchmark questions. A policy question on day one is a Pro problem, not a Core one. HiBob includes Bob AI on Core and says AI runs across the platform, which is the wider claim for that same question.
Payroll, benefits, and people outside the US
BambooHR wins a named US payday, and it still will not tell you the price, so the seat rate is not a payroll budget. The add-on is for US employees: direct deposit, federal, state, and local tax filing, W-2s, garnishments, and multi-rate pay, with paystubs in the account and the mobile app. Accounting sync covers QuickBooks Online, Xero, NetSuite, and Sage Intacct, so the close can land in the ledger you already run. Managed Payroll, where a BambooHR specialist runs the cycle and you approve it, has no public fee either, so the managed option is its own quote.
On-demand pay, a portion of wages already earned, is listed on Core and works whether payday runs in BambooHR or elsewhere, so hourly staff can use it without buying payroll. Time and attendance, covering scheduling, overtime, and an iPad kiosk, is a separate add-on. Core already tracks time off, so clock-in is the extra bill, and you should compare it with time tracking software before you drop a dedicated tool.
HiBob's FAQ says payroll is supported worldwide, with native payroll in the US and the UK, and a Payroll Hub that shares data with another provider so HR is not retyping a spreadsheet. US Payroll, UK Payroll, and Payroll Hub are the three paths, and Core HR is required before any of them, so the hub does not skip the base subscription. HiBob wins when the UK is a real payroll country, not a contractor paid from the US entity, because BambooHR's own payroll product does not file UK taxes.
Outside those two countries, HiBob's answer is the hub plus a local provider, which keeps the record in Bob and leaves filing elsewhere. BambooHR names separate paths, and neither path is priced, so ask for the country before you compare HR seats. Employer of Record, powered by Remote, hires without a local entity in 90+ countries, and that pay runs in Remote, not in BambooHR, so the partner is the source of truth.
Contractor payments through Remote cover 200+ countries, and local payroll links name the UK, Australia, and New Zealand, plus partners such as Deel, Papaya, and Oyster. A hire in Germany is an EOR project on BambooHR and a hub project on HiBob.
Benefits administration on BambooHR, covering open enrollment, life events, and carrier connections, is US-only and separate from the benefits tracking already on Core. If US benefits are the painful cycle, price that add-on on its own and read benefits administration before you treat the HR seat as the benefits system. For a US company that wants payroll in the same price conversation as HR, Gusto and the payroll software guide are the next pages, and Rippling is the page when devices and identity sit in the same record.
Compensation, benchmarks, and the plan finance will ask for
BambooHR Elite wins when compensation has to be a line item with a rate attached. Elite adds compensation planning worksheets, salary benchmarking through Mercer, job levels and bands, total rewards statements, custom dashboards, and HR benchmarks for turnover, age, gender, eNPS, wellbeing, and growth rate. Pro does not include that set, so stay on Pro if you only need reviews.
The compare matrix also adds 30 days of implementation for Elite features, on top of the normal setup, plus two hours a year of data-integrity services and two new-administrator training sessions a year. That extra month is the cost of the benchmark pack, and a small HR team should put it on the calendar.
HiBob's compensation, workforce planning, and finance tools are modules, so they show up as lines on a quote rather than as a published tier. Planning maps headcount so HR and finance share one cost picture, which is what a 400-person company wants when it models next year's seats, and you cannot audit that quote from the website. HiBob wins if finance will sit in the HCM.
Elite wins if the board packet needs Mercer bands and you need the seat price before the demo. Company-similarity comparisons show up on BambooHR Core, and the fuller benchmark set does not, so do not treat the word benchmarks on a call as the Elite pack.
Setup, support, and what an assessor can read
BambooHR's FAQ gives a clock you can promise. Implementation generally takes 4 to 6 weeks, with about two calls a week of 30 to 60 minutes, after you supply the data. Organizations on the flat floor use QuickStart videos and office hours instead, so they should not budget that project. Support is in-house, by phone from 6 am to 6 pm Mountain Time, Monday to Friday, and Elite lists dedicated customer support. BambooHR wins if you need a written window before you promise the CEO a go-live date.
HiBob says mid-market organizations can go live in weeks, and that the timeline depends on size, complexity, and modules. That range is not a schedule you can promise. A company adding payroll, talent, and planning should not plan on the short end without a statement of work.
BambooHR says customer data is hosted in the United States, Canada, or Ireland, encrypted in transit, with sensitive fields encrypted at rest, plus an annual third-party SOC II audit, SAML, native multi-factor authentication, and a zero-trust model. HiBob says it complies with ISO 27001, SOC 1 Type 2, SOC 2 Type 2, and HIPAA, aligns with GDPR principles, and delivers 99.9% uptime. HiBob publishes the longer certification list, while BambooHR publishes where the servers sit, which is what a European works council often asks first.
Scale claims are each vendor's own, as of September 2026. BambooHR describes the product as a fit from a first hire to roughly 1,000 people, and it reports employees in over 190 countries. Its FAQ lists human-reviewed English, Spanish, French, and German, machine translations in eight further languages, and more than 160 currencies, so the reviewed languages do not need a second HRIS. HiBob's FAQ splits buyers into growth (under 200), scale (200 to 1,000), and enterprise (1,000+), and it is a UK-registered company headquartered in London.
Those 190 countries are HR records, not payroll, and BambooHR's own tax filing stays in the US. A remote employee in the record still needs the EOR or a local payroll partner, so the country count oversells what the product files.
HiBob names more than 100 integrations, including Greenhouse, Teamtailor, Okta, Entra ID, OneLogin, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Google Workspace, ADP, and NetSuite, and BambooHR says it has over 150 marketplace partners. Match the identity provider and the payroll system you already run, because a logo you will not turn on does not shorten implementation.
Who should pick which
Pick BambooHR Core for a US company, often under 200 people, with one or two people in HR and a short list of open roles. On the flat floor, QuickStart is the product, not a discounted enterprise tier. The startup HR software guide is the wider shortlist if you are still choosing a category.
Step up from Core when the work changes: Pro for 360s, recognition, or open jobs past five, and Elite when Mercer bands and custom dashboards are in this year's plan, including the extra implementation time.
Pick HiBob in the scale band, roughly 200 to 1,000 people, when US and UK payroll should live in one HCM, or when talent, planning, and finance must share a headcount model. It is also the better demo below that band if you are already multi-country and would rather configure workflows than accept a five-job cap. Get the module list in writing, because Core on the pricing page and Core on the platform page are not the same checklist.
Skip both if payroll is the whole problem at a small US company: start with Gusto. Skip both if IT will ship laptops from the same record: that is Rippling. The mid-market HRIS roundup and the HR software list cover the rest. Deeper pages are the BambooHR review and the HiBob review. Contractors across many countries are a separate buy: see contractor management.

How we compared
We read BambooHR's pricing page, FAQ, payroll page, global employment page, and startups page, and HiBob's pricing page, platform FAQ, platform page, and payroll page, on 23 September 2026. Headcount totals multiply BambooHR's published starting rates by employee count and ignore the unpublished volume discount, so they are ceilings, not quotes. HiBob has no list price on those pages, so this comparison does not invent one. Louis Corneloup, founder of Toolradar and Dupple, edited the verdict. Re-check both pricing pages before a signature, because the cards were read on that date.
A new HRIS does not settle how you use AI on resumes, reviews, or policy answers. If that is the project sitting next to this purchase, start with AI for HR and keep the model away from hiring decisions you cannot explain.
FAQ
Which is better for an HR team in 2026, BambooHR or HiBob?
BambooHR is the better buy when you want a published US price and a system of record for records, PTO, and light hiring. HiBob is the better buy when you are scaling a multi-country company, especially with UK payroll, and you will accept a custom per-employee quote. Core is the wrong default once you need more than five open jobs or a review cycle.
How much does BambooHR cost compared with HiBob overall?
BambooHR Core starts at $10 per employee per month, Pro at $17, and Elite at $25, once you pass 25 employees. Below that line the HR software is a flat rate starting at $250 a month. Fifty people, before the unpublished volume discount, is $500 a month on Core, $850 on Pro, and $1,250 on Elite. HiBob publishes no list price: the quote is per employee and depends on headcount, modules, and services. Payroll, benefits administration, and time tracking are extra BambooHR bills with no public rates. Nonprofits can take 15% off the BambooHR HR seat.
Does HiBob have a free trial or a public price?
HiBob's pricing and FAQ pages do not publish a list price, a free plan, or a trial, so the path is a pricing request and a demo. BambooHR publishes per-employee starting rates and offers a 7-day trial on its startups page. A trial is not a free HRIS: when the week ends, the flat floor or the per-employee rate replaces it.
Which one runs payroll in the US and the UK?
BambooHR Payroll files US federal, state, and local taxes and is a paid add-on with no public rate, and it does not file UK payroll. Other countries go through local providers or an Employer of Record powered by Remote in 90+ countries, and that pay runs in the partner system. Contractor payments through that same partner cover 200+ countries. HiBob offers native US and UK payroll, plus a Payroll Hub for other providers, and Core is required first. Neither vendor publishes a payroll price, so the seat comparison will not settle payday.
How long does a BambooHR or HiBob implementation usually take?
BambooHR says a typical implementation takes 4 to 6 weeks, with about two calls a week, and companies on the flat monthly floor use a QuickStart of videos and office hours instead. Elite features add 30 days of implementation on top of that project. HiBob says mid-market customers can go live in weeks, and the real timeline depends on size, modules, and complexity. Ask for the weeks in the statement of work, not on the marketing page.
Is BambooHR or HiBob better for a global team?
HiBob is the better fit when the UK needs native payroll inside the HCM and the rest of the world can sit on a payroll hub. BambooHR is the better fit when the company is US-based, needs the HR record in several languages and currencies, and will hire abroad through Remote's EOR rather than through its own entities. Employee records in 190 countries, which BambooHR reports, do not mean payroll in every one of those countries.
What happens if we outgrow the cheaper BambooHR plan?
Six open jobs push you from Core to Pro even if you do not want 360 reviews, because the hiring cap does the selling. Performance and recognition sit on Pro, while Mercer bands and custom dashboards sit on Elite, with extra implementation time. Leaving the flat floor replaces that single monthly amount with per-employee starting rates. If the next need is UK payroll or workforce planning, price HiBob instead of another BambooHR tier, because a higher seat still will not file UK taxes.
