Oyster HR Review 2026: Pricing, Pros, Cons and Alternatives
What Oyster charges for employer of record, contractors and HR advice, the fees beside the headline rate, and four alternatives priced on their own pages.
Oyster is worth it in 2026 for a company hiring full-timers in several countries that values a guided, B Corp provider over the lowest fee. Its employer of record starts at $699 per employee per month, with annual seat discounts available, and its contractor product costs $29 per contractor per month after a 30-day free period, prices checked on Oyster's pricing page on 17 October 2026.
The catch is cost. Deel and Remote both list their employer of record $100 a month lower and RemoFirst starts at $199, so ten Oyster EOR hires cost $12,000 a year more than the same ten on Deel. Oyster also asks for a refundable deposit per EOR hire and charges a currency conversion fee if you pay in a currency other than the contract's. Pick Oyster for support and coverage, not price.

Oyster is a global employment platform that hires full-time staff on your behalf in countries where you have no entity, and pays contractors in 180+ countries. Its pitch is breadth with guidance: onboarding specialists, local experts and an HR advisory service sold by the hour. Our employer of record ranking compares the category; this page is about Oyster alone.
Toolradar data: on Toolradar, the software directory we run, Oyster is listed as an alternative to 16 other tools, the second-highest count among the 41 Legal and Compliance tools it tracks (October 2026). Buyers cross-shop it with Deel and Remote more than almost any other tool in that group.
How we compared: we read Oyster's pricing, startup program and Direct+ pages on 17 October 2026, then priced Deel, Remote, RemoFirst and Rippling on their own pricing pages the same day. Figures are list prices for a US company hiring abroad. We did not buy or run any of these services.
What is Oyster?
Oyster sells three core products. Employer of Record covers compliant employment in 120+ countries with multi-country payroll in 120+ currencies. Global Contractors generates contracts in 180+ countries and pays them in 120+ currencies, with in-app identity checks and a misclassification analyzer. People Partner Services is project-based HR advice at $300 an hour, usable for EOR staff or for your own entities.
Around those sit add-ons: a benefits package, visa sponsorship, Salary Insights with salary data across 130+ countries, and Oyster Shell, a subscription that assesses contractor misclassification risk with aggregate protection up to $500,000. Oyster says it is a certified B Corp. Oyster describes its coverage as a mix of owned entities and vetted partners, which matters if you want to know who the legal employer is in a given country before you sign.
How Oyster works
You create an Oyster account for free and pay nothing until you engage someone. For an EOR hire, Oyster drafts a local contract, onboards the person through its specialists and then runs payroll, time off and expenses in the platform. Oyster says onboarding can take as little as 48 hours, which is its own claim rather than a measured average, and the pricing FAQ says there is no minimum number of hires.
Billing is per active team member. Oyster asks for a refundable deposit for each EOR hire to start the engagement, accepts payment in USD, EUR, GBP or CAD, and charges a conversion fee only when you pay in a currency other than the contract currency. Setup, onboarding, HR expert calls and terminations carry no extra fee, according to its pricing FAQ. Contractors follow a lighter path: send a contract, approve invoices and pay, with the first 30 days free.
Oyster key features
Oyster pricing
Oyster prints three prices on its pricing page, checked on 17 October 2026: employer of record at the monthly rate in the table above, Global Contractors at a flat per-contractor monthly rate after 30 free days, and People Partner Services at $300 an hour. Oyster's help center adds Oyster Shell at $49 per contractor a month on top of the $29 contractor fee (read 19 October 2026), so a protected contractor costs $78 a month. Annual EOR seats cost less, but Oyster does not print the discounted rate. Startups can save up to $1,200 on EOR subscription fees through Oyster for startups, and certified nonprofits and B Corps can apply for discounts.
Our scenario: ten EOR employees on monthly billing cost $6,990 a month, or $83,880 a year. The same ten cost $71,880 a year on Deel's rate and from $23,880 on RemoFirst's $199 starting rate. Ten contractors cost $290 a month on Oyster, the same as Remote's entry contractor tier and $200 a month less than Deel's.
Three lines sit outside the headline fee. The refundable EOR deposit ties up cash at the start, the FX fee applies if you pay in a currency other than the contract's, and benefits are an add-on. Competitor prices come from Deel pricing, Remote pricing, RemoFirst pricing and Rippling pricing, read the same day.

Oyster pros and cons

- Setup, onboarding, HR expert calls and terminations are included in the subscription, per its pricing FAQ.
- Annual EOR seats can be reused for backfills at no extra cost, which softens the fee for teams with turnover.
- Contractors are free for 30 days and then billed per contractor at the lowest mainstream rate, with a misclassification analyzer included.
What could be better
- Its EOR rate ties Remote's monthly list rate at the top of the mainstream range, $100 above Deel's.
- A refundable deposit is required for each EOR hire, and a currency conversion fee applies when you pay in another currency.
- Coverage mixes owned entities and vetted partners, and some countries need more time or a minimum number of hires.
Who Oyster is for
Oyster suits a company of 10 to a few hundred people hiring full-timers in several countries that wants specialists to guide each hire, and that can live with a top-of-market EOR fee. It also suits contractor-heavy teams, since its contractor rate matches the lowest mainstream price here and comes with a free first month. Impact-driven companies get extra value: Oyster is a B Corp and offers discounts to certified nonprofits and B Corps.
Skip Oyster if the EOR fee is the deciding line: RemoFirst and Deel cost less per employee. Skip it too if you need to know that the provider owns the entity in every country, because Oyster uses partners in some. If your hiring is mostly in the US, a PEO is cheaper, as our PEO services guide shows, and our EOR cost breakdown explains what the monthly fee covers.
Best Oyster alternatives
If Oyster is not the right fit, these are the closest options.
| Tool | Best for | Starts at | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Oyster | Companies hiring full-timers in several countries that want guided onboarding and a B Corp provider | EOR from $699/employee/mo | Visit → |
| Deel | Teams that want EOR, contractors and US PEO on one account at published monthly rates | EOR $599/employee/mo | Visit → |
| Remote | Teams that want EOR, payroll and contractors on one price list, with penalty cover for contractors | EOR from $599/employee/mo | Visit → |
| RemoFirst | Cost-led teams hiring in one or two countries that want the lowest published EOR rate | EOR from $199/employee/mo | Visit → |
| Rippling | Companies that want global hires inside the same system as US payroll, devices and apps | Platform from $8/employee/mo plus a base fee | Visit → |
The bottom line
Oyster is a good choice when support and coverage matter more than the monthly fee. Its employer of record sits at the top of the mainstream price range, but onboarding specialists, free terminations, reusable annual seats and a free month for contractors make the fee easier to defend for a team that hires steadily abroad. Budget for the refundable deposit and check the currency you will pay in.
