What it is
An employee survey tool sends a census or a pulse, keeps answers anonymous enough that people tell the truth, then turns scores and comments into a manager view.
The serious ones add lifecycle surveys (onboarding, stay, exit), eNPS, industry benchmarks, and an action plan that assigns a person, not a slide.
Pricing has split into published per-seat, published flat annual, and quote-only. The questions they ask are closer than the contracts.
Why it matters
A 50-person team on Lattice Engagement hits the $4,000 floor, not the $2,400 the $4 seat math suggests. The same team on 15Five Engage is $2,400 if there is no hidden minimum. Workleap Standard is $4,999 and stops scaling with headcount until 250 people.
Culture Amp's reported floor is around $4,500, and the median deal Vendr sees is $21,990. Peakon often starts the conversation at $20,000.
The other reason is what happens after the score. Asking and then doing nothing is worse than not asking.
A cheap pulse with no action owner and a $22,000 science platform that nobody follows up on fail the same way.
Key features to look for
The bottom line
If you want a number you can put in a spreadsheet today, start with Lattice Engagement or 15Five Engage, both $4 a seat, billed yearly. Lattice has a $4,000 floor. 15Five does not publish one.
If you are between about 110 and 250 people and you do not mind paying for reviews you may not use, Workleap at $4,999 a year is the cheaper way to run a pulse.
Culture Amp is the right call when the census and the benchmarks are the job, and you can defend a quote that often lands near $22,000.
Workday Peakon is the right call when you already pay Workday or you want continuous listening and will accept a $20,000 starting conversation. Do not pick both.
